KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) -- A man drove around the Kalamazoo, Michigan area shooting people at three locations Saturday evening including a Cracker Barrel restaurant and a Ford dealership, leaving six dead and three injured, two of whom are in critical condition, police said.
Police said around 12:40 a.m. local time that they had apprehended a suspect in downtown Kalamazoo
Kalamazoo County Undersheriff Paul Matyas told WWMT-TV that the man did not resist when approached by law enforcement officers. Matyas says weapons were found in the man's vehicle.
Asked if he was confident that the man apprehended by police is the person who carried out the shootings, Matyas said: "The threat to the public is over. We now have our suspect."
Police said they believe the shootings were random and not targeting particular people.
"We have our worst case scenario," Matyas said earlier. "These are random murders."
He said the shootings began about 6 p.m. local time. In addition to the restaurant and the car dealership, the third location was an apartment complex. All of the shootings were in the parking lots.
Kalamazoo is about 160 miles west of Detroit.
